This event will explore these narratives and debunk myths about the BDS movement , its intentions, and its mission. This growing grassroots movement is an anti- oppressive movement calls for human rights for all people and freedom for Palestinian People. In order to make the “change we want to make” Alana urges people to learn and understand the history of not only #BDS but successful boycotts like the one that broke apartheid in South Africa.
We must work to build a community and learn from each other how to correct the record on #BDS. The history of this movement goes back to 2005 and comes from Palestinians themselves. From a base of over 130 Palestinian civil society groups this has become a global call. Many international leaders have called for supporting it. This call for justice has gone global, as a result it has become impossible to ignore. The campaign against this cause is intense, especially here in the United States where a number of state legislatures have passed bills criminalizing support of BDS, contrary to the first amendment.
The 3 main demands of #BDS
- End the occupation of Palestinian lands.
- Equal rights for Palestinian citizens of Isreal.
- The right of return for people displaced in 1943.
Air BNB has recently announced that it will no longer list properties in the settlements illustrating a major win for the movement! Alana says HP and others still need to be pressured. If we educate our friends and networks about this movement, ultimately it will keep growing. New Jersey Revolution is proud to support this event with Jewish Voice For Peace.
