Welcome to the #Idavox Report on the Revolution Radio Network!
It is Tuesday night, and you know what that means! It is time for another episode of the #Idavox Report with Daryle Lamont Jenkins, Brian Powers, and Christian Perez. Last weekend, Daryle went to a conference held by United Against Racism And Fascism (UARF), a group with global connections based out of New York.
Greek antifascists don’t play around. They essentially routed Golden Dawn to the extent that they have even been criminalized. The Golden Dawn even had a New York City chapter. For those who don’t know what we are talking about, the Golden Dawn is a Greek-associated Neo-Nazi group that has existed since the 80s.
United Against Racism and Fascism Conference
The UARF conference opened with the reading of a statement by the Greek movement against fascism and racism. This movement is called KEERFA (Movement United Against Racism & the Fascist Threat.) This organization is trying to create a global front to protect innocent people against harmful ideas movements. Daryle endorses every last word of the statement that was made. Daryle fondly gives a shout out to UARF for having him at their event.
Daryle remembers that there were some speakers at the conference who focused on anti-ICE issues. He encountered an organization called Operation ICE Watch and was asked to speak about issues related to policing. He spoke before approximately 50 to 75 people. His message was one of solidarity, unity, hope, motivation, and encouragement, while also recognizing the profound struggle that so many comrades go through on the streets every day. He also promoted the mutual aid work done by the Antifascist Unity Coalition.
Daryle shows off some of the swag that he received at the festival: stickers from the Black and Red Collective, the New York City Metropolitan Anarchist Coordinating Council, the Cosmopolitan Antifascists, Barrabrava, New York City AntiFascists, ICE Watch, United Against Fascism, and many other smaller groups. He had a good time overall that day, despite the fact that the Patriot Front had shown up prior and graffitied hateful messages and decals all over the park.
Between that festival, a webinar with German antifascists, and another webinar with Norweigian antifascists, Daryle has been busy lately. Perhaps Daryle’s biggest takeaway from recent events that he has attended is that antifascists need to develop global solidarity. We have dealt with the fascists uniting globally and it is high time to follow suit. Daryle wants to have more antifa conferences in America where we welcome global comrades. He suggests the National Press Club in Washington, DC as a venue for such events.
If you want to help our network begin to make these efforts possible, the first step is to donate. Independent media can always use your donations. You can donate to Revolution Radio. Your contributions are going directly to foster grassroots activism.
For a future episode of the Idavox Report, Daryle is trying to recruit members from some of the German antifa groups that he encountered. He wants to ask them about the development of fascist groups in their country. No matter where you go in the world, unfortunately, you are likely to encounter hate groups and dangerous people. However, Daryle reminds us, hate has consequences, and those are not empty words.
Daryle emphasizes that just because Trump is no longer President does not mean his supporters are gone and we need to remember that. Some of his supporters have latched onto the fantasy that he won the election, and some of those people are dangerous.
Violence and Hate
Speaking of dangerous people, there have now been two shootings in our country in the past week. This is unacceptable. Whenever a violent event such as a shooting takes place, people look to see what the shooter’s race is. We should not be in competition. Race is not the biggest factor in this, nor is mental illness. We should be examining and changing the complex societal system that causes people to break down into these senseless acts.
Before we go for the night, Daryle warns of Identity and Democracy, which is a far-right fascist political group of the European Parliament. It was launched in June 2019 for the Ninth European term of Parliament. The fact that fascists are advancing so far into politics should remind us activists that organization is crucial. Antifascists need to band together to take down fascists and they need to do it now.
The Progressive is putting out a story on Daryle in April, so keep an eye out for that. As Daryle discussed at the UARF conference, AFUC is trying to put together a national food drive on May Day, which is Saturday, May 1. If you want more information, please contact Daryle through Facebook or Twitter.
Revolution Radio productions, including the Idavox Report, will be on break for the next week to rest and take in the fresh Spring air. In the meantime, do the same! Until next time, as usual, stay safe and stay informed.
